4 Sri Lankan Resorts Among Condé Nast Traveler’s 2017 Hot List

Condé Nast Traveler has announced its 2017 Hot List citing 75 properties all around the world. This of course includes 4 Sri Lankan resorts as well. For those of you who don’t know, Condé Nast Traveler is a luxury and lifestyle travel magazine published by American mass media company, Condé Nast. Every year, the Condé Nast Traveler Hot List recognise the best properties around the world and is considered to be one of the most well regarded recognitions in the industry. This year, approximately 675 entries aimed at making to the list. Ultimately it came down to the best 75. In the list 9 Asian properties were cited, out of which 4 of them were Sri Lankan. Not bad for a small Island.

Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle Resort

Anantara is no stranger to accolades. The resort claims ownership to 3 other international awards in the recent past. These include,

  • Being among the awardees at Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards in 2016
  • Named on DestinAsian magazine’s 2016 Luxe List
  • Awarded by Wine Spectator in 2016 for its Il Mare restaurant.

Located in the Southern part of Sri Lanka, the Anantara Peace Haven Resort in Tangalle is one of the many prime resorts that the luxury hospitality brand boasts. If you ever decide to make a visit, you’ll find the resort set on a secluded stretch of the beach amidst a 21-acre coconut plantation. Its unique location provides guests with exquisite experiences such as dining by the cliff side or enjoying the colonial tradition of high tea. Perhaps you’re more of a gourmet Italian dining kind of person. Either way, Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle Resort will be sure to make your adventure memorable.

Chena Huts

Next on the list is Chena Huts by Uga Escapes. The resort lies along Sri Lanka’s second largest natural reserve, Yala. For those of you not in the know, Yala is home to a plethora of flora as well as fauna, out of which some are even endemic. Taking up from the traditional old days, the luxury resort follows the Chena Huts theme all throughout the residence. Hence the name.

Apart from the usual luxuries of a hotel, Chena Huts offer quite the bit of scenery and unique experiences. An observant eye would spot elephants wander from the jungle nearby, to play in the surf. The resort resides besides a beach, one where sea turtles come visit to lay eggs under the moonlight. On a good day, you could even see a few leopards, spotted deer, crocodiles and the likes.

KK Beach

KK Beach is somewhat of a new entrant onto the whole hotel business. But has successfully managed to be among the top hotel destinations in Condé Nast Traveler’s 2017 Hot List. Kicking things off back in December 2016, KK Beach is a six suite luxury boutique hotel located in Habaraduwa, Galle. The property is managed by the same people from Kahanda Kanda, also situated in Galle.

Visitors to KK Beach would have the opportunity to engage in activities such as swimming, cookery classes and even yoga. The close proximity to the beach is ideal for those who are fond of snorkeling, scuba diving, whale watching, deep sea fishing, etc. Speaking of sea fishing, if you’re a fan of seafoood then do try visiting KK Beach on a Monday or a Friday. Why? 2 words. Seafood BBQ.

Santani Wellness Resort & Spa

The final Sri Lankan entrant on the list is Santani Wellness Resort & Spa. As you might have guessed, this is not your usual luxury boutique hotel. Located in Werapitiya, Kandy, Santani claims that its property is the first and only purpose-built wellness resort in Sri Lanka.

Being a guest at Santani, there’s no shortage of walking space. In fact, the resort boasts 49 acres of tropical jungle and fertile rice fields. However, Santani makes one request from its visitors, that guests be digital-free when you dine and spa here. Almost all of the shared spaces are Wi-Fi free (except their media room). So if you’re someone who lives and breathes on the internet, then maybe Santani may not be the best place for you.

Exciting Times Ahead For Lankan Hotels?

Sri Lanka is no stranger to hospitality, particularly when it comes to the tourism & hotel industry. In fact, a few months back Vogue even named Sri Lanka as one of the best places to visit in 2017. Now, with luxury travel magazines like Condé Nast citing Sri Lankan hotels as being among the best in the world, things could only get better. No doubt we’re definitely in for more exciting times ahead for the industry.
